First female Chair for solicitor advocates

With effect from 12 November 2011, Yvonne Spencer is appointed as Chair of the Solicitors Association of Higher Court Advocates (SAHCA) for a period of 2 years.

The society was founded 17 years ago and promotes the maintenance of the highest ethical and professional standards of advocacy in the Higher Courts and has more than 1250 members across England and Wales, practising in every field of law at every level.

Yvonne commented on her appointment:

"I am delighted to have been appointed as the Chair.  This is a critical time as SAHCA continues to champion the rights of solicitor advocates in view of the Quality Assurance Scheme for Advocates (QASA) scheme to be launched in 2012.

My priority is to ensure that SAHCA is fully engaged in all debates that will shape the design of the QASA scheme to ensure that the diverse practice of solicitor advocacy is valued and recognised by the regulators and judiciary as standing for high quality service and public choice. This is fundamental to everything that SAHCA stands for.”

Members of SAHCA possess an impressive range of specialisms and  many are leaders in their field. Yvonne is a partner at law firm Veale Wasbrough Vizards, where she heads the nationally acclaimed niche pastoral team.
