Bettina Rigg joins VWV from Bond Pearce where she was a partner working in the employment team and head of the education sector.
Bettina's employment practice covers public, private and third sectors, including education, manufacturing, retail, services and health.
A key focus for Bettina is the education sector, in particular FE and HE clients, where her specialisms are in employment and student-related issues, as well as disability-related matters, and equality and diversity. Bettina will continue to act as a member of the Council of the University of Exeter. She is an ADR Group Accredited Mediator and not only mediates workplace and other disputes but is also well placed to advise clients about the mediation process and help them use it to achieve good outcomes.
Bettina is recommended by Chambers & Partners directory in Education: Institutions (Higher and Further Education) in London & UK Wide. "She impresses interviewees with her client management skills. One source adds that 'she always inspires total confidence.'" Bettina is also recommended in Legal Experts 2011 for Employment.
Bettina's appointment is the most recent of a series of key strategic hires for VWV at partner level, after the arrival of three partners in the past six months. Anthony Young joined in May as a partner in the corporate team in Bristol. In June, David Hansom joined the commercial team from Eversheds to head the firm's public sector group, based in the London office, and Ed Husband joined the Bristol commercial litigation team from Bevan Brittan.
The firm has also recently received two awards: In October, VWV was named 'Regional Law Firm of the Year' by Bristol Law Society and the firm's education practice was awarded 'Specialist Team of the Year' by 360 Legal Group.
Bettina commented:
"I am expecting a very busy 2012 in light of changes to the landscape in which universities and colleges operate and the need for them 'do more for less'. VWV has an excellent reputation in employment and education, which are the core areas of my practice. So this is a very exciting move for me."
Simon Heald, VWV Managing Partner said:
"Bettina's appointment further strengthens our leading national position in the education sector, and the depth and breadth that our education team is able to draw on for clients across both offices."
