BA cabin-crew suspended for internet intimidation

In the latest twist in the on-going dispute between British Airways and the trade union, Unite, 15 cabin crew members have been suspended for posting 'inappropriate comments' on Unite's website. It is alleged that the cabin-crew in question were attempting to intimidate volunteers training to work as air stewards to cover staff shortage during the planned strike in March. BA have suspended the 15 members of staff pending an internal review.

Best Practice

With more workplace e-mail and internet abuse cases occurring it is recommend that you have a comprehensive email and internet policy in place which clearly sets out a code of conduct for both work related and personal use of email and internet. The policy should also cover use of social networks and blogs such as a trade union website and should cross-refer to other relevant policies, for example the disciplinary and anti-harassment policy.
