Marketing and Events Executive

Objective

  • To support the Firm's event programme which currently involves circa 100 events annually.
  • To provide an efficient infrastructure to support and implement business development initiatives.

Required skills, knowledge and experience

The successful candidate will have a degree. They will have a flair for events/organisation, and ideally hold or be studying towards the Chartered Institute of Marketing qualification.

The candidate should have at least two years’ events experience, preferably within the professional services sector. The role requires the individual to have excellent persuasion and communication skills, as presenting to senior lawyers and partners will be required. The successful candidate will have the ability to project manage and multi task and, be highly organised.

The role will also include some travel, so the individual must have excellent time keeping skills, a flexible approach (and preferably a full, clean driving licence).

Key tasks:

Central business development strategy

  • Support the Marketing Manager and team in the implementation and evaluation of the central business development plan for the Firm.

Departmental development strategy

  • Support the Marketing Manager and team to ensure the plans are implemented, reviewed and evaluated throughout the financial year.
  • Prepare for and attend departmental meetings.

Key sector group strategy

  • Support the Marketing Manager to ensure the plans are implemented, reviewed and evaluated throughout the financial year.
  • Prepare for and attend at key sector meetings.

Client relationship management

  • Provide support for the key client initiative.
  • Day to day management of the existing client database.

Development of a target/prospect programme

  • Work with team leaders, identifying appropriate targets, developing action plans in relation to each and monitoring and evaluating progress.

External communications

  • Ensure consistent brand image for the Firm in all external communications, including e-zine templates, advertising and promotional materials.
  • Support the co-ordination of printed and electronic materials – identifying objectives, budget, design, content, production and subsequent evaluation. Co-ordination of feedback of activity to the fee earning teams.

Internal communications

  • Ensure a consistent image for the Firm in internal communications.
  • Provide monthly reports to Head of BD & Change Management, for budgets and project progress.

Management of tender procedure

  • Support the tender production process, when required.

Event management

  • Management of the Firm seminar programme which includes, corporate hospitality, conferences, seminars and lawyer networking.
  • Research and evaluation of new event opportunities.
  • Research, evaluation and negotiation of venues.
  • Conduct feasibility assessments for all events, to ensure they pass the 'bang for our buck' test.
  • Plan, coordinate & evaluate ad hoc Firm events; eg: golf days, annual dinners, staff conference.
  • Conduct event evaluation and delivery of reports, with recommendations to lawyers.
  • Support fee earning teams with their event ideas, by attending their team meetings.
  • Deliver event marketing material which can involve hard copy invites or e-invites that are consistent with our brand image and within budget.
  • Where appropriate, liaise with external speakers to ensure the content is delivered for the event (eg: biogs for flyers, presentations).
  • Promote all events internally and externally with the support of the Marketing Manager.
  • Liaise with the Firm's caterers to deliver high quality refreshments for attendees.
  • Manage update of event statistics for Marketing Manager and Head of BD and Change Mgmt.
  • Where needed, provide support at the venue/location of the event. This may involve over night stays and travel.

The more junior fee-earners, especially trainees, welcome the care and skill with which their work is monitored. When necessary, corrections are required firmly, yet sensitively, and by encouragement and explanation, learning is achieved and motivation sustained.
