Overall objective

To work with colleagues to help clients succeed in realising their business or personal objectives, through the efficient delivery of appropriate legal advice and assistance in support of the Education Sector Plan and particularly the Education: Charities/Corporate and Education: Transactions & Funding sub-plan.

Required skills, knowledge and experience

Admitted solicitor or barrister with current practising certificate or Trainee Solicitor who will qualify September 2009. Must demonstrate an ability to work to the SRA Skills Standards and to provide accurate, focussed advice to clients. The expectation is that the appointee will have at least 6 months’ experience of corporate transactional work and some experience of charities law, although we would consider an exceptional candidate with less experience. The appointee need not have experience of advising clients in the education sector, although this would be a clear advantage.

Skills required

The ability to:

  • develop strong client relationships with schools and other education institutions, including independent schools
  • advise clients, helping them decide the best course of action
  • communicate concisely both verbally and in writing with colleagues and clients
  • draft documents that are clear and concise
  • conduct effective case and transaction management
  • advocate and present orally when required
  • research the relevant legal issues applicable to a case
  • conduct negotiations where appropriate
  • use confidently office IT applications; good typing skills
