Overall objectives

  • To run a case load of undefended cases to include pre-litigation work, litigated cases and enforcement of judgments
  • To use the Visualfiles case management system and action ‘to do’ lists

Tasks

  • To deal with file opening on Visualfiles and entering new debts
  • To ensure the necessary information is obtained and to advise clients on prospects of successfully recovering debts
  • To conduct cases in accordance with the SFRS procedural chart
  • To correspond with debtors, courts, clients and any agents regarding a case, unless it becomes defended or a court application is received
  • To draft claim forms, requests for judgment and enforcement applications, as well as settlement agreements
  • To enter into negotiations and advise clients on alternative dispute resolution

The more junior fee-earners, especially trainees, welcome the care and skill with which their work is monitored. When necessary, corrections are required firmly, yet sensitively, and by encouragement and explanation, learning is achieved and motivation sustained.
