Barney heads the Education & Charities sector and has many years experience advising schools and charities on charity, public benefit and governance. He has developed a special interest and expertise advising schools on strategic issues including charity mergers, acquisitions and constitutional review.
Barney has written numerous articles on these topics and is co-author of The Independent Schools Governor's Handbook (2009). He is also regular speaker at national education conferences.
He is recommended by Chambers and Partners as a key individual nationally for his charity law expertise and for giving "practical and relevant advice", and recommended by Legal 500 as a leading figure.

He is a member of the Charity Law Association and sits on working parties, including on public benefit for education charities. He also understands the client perspective having been a Governor of two schools.
