Handling disputes

Unfortunately the complex family relationships underpinning family businesses can lead to disputes. In circumstances where a dispute has already arisen, we work with the business to find the best solution possible for the family and the business.

We recognise that prevention is better than cure and work with the family business to put procedures in place to manage relationships and the day to day running of the business. One way of doing this is through a Family Agreement. This reduces the risk of a dispute arising and, in the event that it does, it ensures that a procedure is in place to allow the sensible resolution of the dispute in a manner which minimises the upset for individuals and minimises disruption for the business.

Our approach to family business disputes is one of resolution through collaboration. We have expertise in alternative dispute resolution and one of our partners, Huw Morgan, is a qualified mediator.

The team at Veale Wasbrough Vizards are commercially minded lawyers who also understand and appreciate the special factors affecting a family owned business."
