Veale Wasbrough Vizards are proud to sponsor and facilitate the LGTP. On behalf of LGTP we provide an excellent training programme established to provide training for local government lawyers. LGTP now has over 45 member authorities stretching as far as Cornwall, South Wales, the West, the South Midlands and the South Coast.
LGTP offers tremendous value as a networking opportunity for authorities to share knowledge and information with quality speakers on topics which are relevant and important to our members. We understand the financial constraints facing Local Authorities and believe that LGTP offers real value for money for the provision of training.
Please view the LGTP Programme 2011/12 for a list of all seminars for the current year. If you are a member and you would like to suggest a topic for next year's training programme. Please click here to access the Members area.
If you are interested in joining LGTP you can apply online for your membership.
You can register for a seminar online via our Events page or alternatively, call our events team on 0117 314 5241 who will send you a booking form by email.
Message from the Chair:
“Welcome to the 2011/12 season of the Local Government Training Partnership (LGTP) seminars. This year Local Government faces fresh challenges with a new government and new ideas of what and how councils should deliver. The Localism Bill offers radical ideas but the old barriers of squeezed financial resources to deliver the new vision still remains.
At LGTP, we aim to bridge the gap by offering the training you have told us you need within, what we trust is, an affordable cost. This year’s Partnership Programme offers seminars on, Local Authority constitutional matters, the latest in planning law, housing and community assets, litigation and advocacy skills, education and children, procurement and shared services, truly, something for all tastes.
We must extend our grateful thanks, again, to Veale Wasbrough Vizards (VWV), who administer the Programme for us and are securing some knowledgeable and entertaining speakers to deliver the Programme. The seminars have a good mix of substantive law and practice plus a very practical slant from those working at the ‘sharp end’. We have left the content of the latter seminars a little ‘looser’ so we can pick up the emerging ‘hot issues’ as they develop.
The informal ‘Special Interest Clubs’ have been rebranded as ‘workshops’ as this title better reflects the focus of the meetings as an informal setting to discuss ‘burning’ issues. The workshop matches the theme of the seminar it precedes; save for the last one when we hold the Partnership’s AGM, instead, and set the following year’s Partnership Programme.
The annual LGTP subscription still represents incredible value and covers all the seminars – at a choice of two venues - the workshops, refreshments at lunch and tea and the detailed course handouts. Membership of LGTP is still the most cost effective and enjoyable way to meet CPD requirements - compared to the cost of attending single seminars elsewhere – and 3 hours CPD is given for each seminar attended. In addition to the above, this year we launched the e-zine as an extra resource and the members’ webpage (on VWV’s website) holds copies of the presentation slides and handouts for past seminars.
Despite a slight increase in the subscription costs, membership offers real value and the Partnership is adaptable and responsive to the needs and wishes of its members. I commend this year’s Programme to you and I hope I can welcome you as a LGTP member for the forthcoming year.”
