Annual update - Management of School fee disputes

Overview

In the prevailing economic climate effective financial control is essential to all independent schools. Comprehensive contractual arrangements, including compliance with consumer credit legislation, have never been more important. At the same time, you will be aware that the level of formal complaints by parents has increased as they seek ways of avoiding prompt payment of fees. This unique and comprehensive seminar will examine ways in which your school can take charge of its fee recovery, whilst honouring the school's contractual obligation to implement the school's complaints procedures. Our specialist independent schools sector lawyers will provide you with advice and practical tips to guide you through:

  • the importance of Parent Contract clauses for fee recovery, including fees in lieu of notice, exclusion for non-payment of fees and fee increases clauses
  • consumer credits - the latest news
  • handling parents' complaints from the Head's decision to the Governors' Complaints Panel Hearing
  • effective fee recovery - Court rules, recent cases and the position on pursuing fees referred back to schools by HTC or other fee companies. We will conclude the day with a discussion forum to enable you to make the best of our school fee recovery services and to share your experiences
