How Can Thomas Help You?

Thomas is a planning Solicitor, having trained at VWV and qualified in March 2016. He was a Paralegal within the Commercial Property and Planning teams in Bristol from July 2013 to September 2014 before commencing his training contract.

As a member of the Planning team Thomas advises on all aspects of planning law, with a focus on drafting and negotiating planning and highway agreements. He also enjoys the challenge of planning 'problem solving' and advises on certificates of lawful use and rights of way matters including footpath diversion and stopping up.

Thomas is a member of the Energy & Utilities sector team and assists our sector clients with environmental and sustainability issues. He advises on contaminated land including in relation to compulsory purchase, and is responsible for producing quarterly legal updates covering environmental regulation. Thomas is also the firm's contact for advice on compliance with the Energy Savings Opportunity Scheme (ESOS).

Thomas is involved in advising pipeline operators in relation to Development Consent Orders (DCOs) and enforcement of Energy Act rights to maintain the strategic and environmental integrity of pipelines.  He also assists the Licensing team with planning aspects relating to licensed premises.

Prior to embarking on a legal career, Thomas worked for six years as a transport researcher and consultant, advising local government and central government clients on sustainable transport policy, strategy and projects. This experience is hugely valuable when dealing with the transport provisions required to make new developments acceptable in planning terms.
