Furlough Update for Academies and Maintained Schools
The Chancellor has confirmed that the Coronavirus Job Retention Scheme (the Scheme) will be extended to 30 June (a total of 4 months running from 1 March), and may be extended further.
The online portal has been available from 20 April to accept claims by employers.
The Government have issued further updates to the employer and employee guidance and we have also seen a Treasury Direction setting out how the Scheme is intended to work. We have updated our notes in line with these developments.
The Government have reiterated that any organisation that receives public funding should not furlough staff whose salaries would typically fall within that funding. There may be aspects of the operation where furlough can be used. On 17 April 2020 the Government provided updated guidance around the financial support available to providers of education, early years childcare and children's social care which contains useful guidance.
