Worker Identifying as Gender-fluid Awarded £180,000 in Milestone Discrimination Case

on Friday, 16 October 2020.

Further to our report on the landmark discrimination case which found that protection of non-binary and gender-fluid people falls within the scope of gender reassignment under the Equality Act...

... the claimant, Ms Taylor, has been awarded a significant sum in compensation.

Read our previous report.

In the Birmingham Employment Tribunal, Ms Taylor, who identifies as gender-fluid, successfully argued that she had suffered harassment and discrimination because of gender reassignment. The remedies hearing has now taken place and Ms Taylor has been awarded £180,000 in compensation.

The tribunal's full written reasons in respect of its decision and a breakdown of the compensation amount are yet to be published. However, the outcome of the case and the value of the compensation awarded indicates the importance the tribunal has put on protection being given to non-binary and gender fluid workers.
