The AI Council includes some big names in the AI space, including Dame Patricia Hodgson, Board Member of the Centre for Data Ethics and Innovation and UKRI chief executive Mark Walport; all under the watchful eye of their Chair, Tabitha Goldstaub, co-founder of CognitionX. The AI Council is another step forward following the recommendations of the AI Review.
The AI Council is to act as an independent expert committee with the aim of promoting the growth of AI, including its adoption and ethical use by organisations, in the UK. It is hoped that the big players in the AI space appointed to the AI Council will bring with them personal experience of the use of AI in order to help establish guidance on the best use and adoption of AI technologies in the UK. The AI Council will do this by bringing together a wide range of experts in the field of AI to discuss areas such as data and ethics, skills and diversity, which the government can in turn use as an insight into establishing the UK as a world leader in the AI space.
The establishment of this new council has been branded an important step towards highlighting innovation in the UK, including authenticating British technology as a leading authority in AI, both nationally and across the globe.
