Previous guidance had suggested that only essential moves could take place, or those for empty properties. In short:
Previously many buyers had hoped to complete, but had been unable to make removal arrangements, or their move was not perceived to be "reasonably necessary". It is estimated that more than 450,000 people have been prevented from moving as a result of the coronavirus (COVID-19) restrictions. This new guidance confirms that those matters can now move ahead to completion.
Whilst many estate agents have continued to support their clients by working remotely and progressing existing agreed sales, they have been prohibited from carrying out in-person viewings in occupied properties. These can now resume. Estate agents, conveyancers and removal firms may now all return to work, while following social distancing guidelines.
Further guidelines are to be issued to enable people to give more information about each stage of the moving process, including each aspect of the sales and lettings process, from viewings to removals. We will update you further, as these are issued.
