In summary:
- everyone should continue to follow the guidance for their relevant local tier
- clinically extremely vulnerable people will not necessarily be required to shield, even in Tier 3: risk 'very high' areas
- strict shielding will only be required in the very worst hit areas and individuals will be contacted in writing with a new shielding notification to confirm that they are required to shield again
- shielding in the worst affected areas will only be introduced for a limited period of time and will be subject to consistent review
The advice continues to be that everyone is advised to work from home where possible. However, where this is not possible, clinically extremely vulnerable people can go into the workplace. For those who do not feel comfortable attending the workplace, employees are encouraged to discuss possible options with their employer. Employers are required to take steps to mitigate the risk of exposure to COVID-19 in the workplace and it may be possible for employers to furlough clinically extremely vulnerable staff under the Coronavirus Job Retention Scheme (CJRS).
