Welcome to the First Edition of Our Information Law Brief

on Monday, 27 January 2020.

To celebrate World Data Privacy Day, we're launching our Information Law Brief, containing updates and insights into the latest developments in information and privacy law.

The purpose of World Data Privacy Day is to raise awareness about privacy and data protection best practice.

As the world becomes increasingly driven by data, it is more important than ever to maintain good practices around information security and privacy. Our articles will ensure that you are able to maximise the potential of the data that you hold, while keeping on the right side of the regulator.

The first edition of our Information Law Brief covers the following topics:

  • Things to consider as Brexit approaches
  • The cost of non-compliance
  • The first fine handed out by the ICO under GDPR
  • GDPR two years on - participate in our survey for a chance to win a £50 Amazon voucher!

Specialist Information Law Solicitors

Our experienced team advise on all aspects of information law, rather than just focusing on data protection and freedom of information. For example, we advise on privacy, confidentiality, and misuse of private information and the legal implications concerning the monetisation of personal data. This holistic approach helps to ensure that we provide you with the best possible advice. For example, when advising you on the risks associated with a data breach, we can also advise you regarding the risks of claims under privacy laws, in addition to data protection legislation.

Whilst we have particular expertise in advising organisations like yours on responding to data breaches and complex subject access requests, we also advise on the wider aspects of data protection law, including privacy notices, information security, workforce monitoring, international data transfers and other data subject rights such as the right to be forgotten.

We can provide you with specialist advice on the use of personal data for marketing, fundraising and development purposes.

This includes advising about:

  • GDPR consent requirements for marketing
  • buying and selling databases containing personal data
  • use of photographs and videos for marketing purposes
  • other forms of marketing and platforms, such as social media and viral marketing

Our Information Law team regularly provide advice and training to clients on these issues, both in the context of litigation and in subject access/freedom of information requests.
