Coronavirus Self-Isolation Rules Change for Contacts of Positive Cases

on Friday, 17 December 2021.

Coronavirus (COVID-19) self-isolation rules have changed this week in order to remove the requirement for all close contacts of positive Omicron variant cases to self-isolate for 10 days.

Under the Health Protection (Coronavirus, Restrictions) (Self-Isolation) (England) (Amendment) (No 6) Regulations 2021, there is no longer any distinction between close contacts of known or suspected Omicron cases, and close contacts of Delta variant cases.

Under the new Regulations, all close contacts will no longer be required to self-isolate if they are fully vaccinated, taking part in a vaccine trial, or can provide evidence they cannot be vaccinated for clinical reasons.

Government guidance is now for people who are fully vaccinated and identified as a close contact of someone with COVID-19 to take daily lateral flow tests for seven days.
