Existing Employment Law to Bremain

The Secretary of State for Exiting the EU, David Davis, has indicated that existing employment law in the UK will not be overhauled post-Brexit.

There has been a lot of speculation about what Brexit might mean for UK employment law and we recently reported on what the future may hold.

However, in a recent blog, David Davis provided a more definitive answer, by confirming that employment laws in the UK were unlikely to change in any significant way. Writing about ways to make Britain a better place to do business, Mr Davis confirmed that “Britain has a relatively flexible workforce, and so long as the employment law environment stays reasonably stable it should not be a problem for business.”

Acknowledging the broad range of working people who voted for Brexit, Mr Davis confirmed that he was not in favour of 'rewarding them by cutting their rights'. His opinion is that, whilst some EU regulations such as 'unnecessary' market and product regulationshave impacted the UK's global competitiveness, employment regulation is not one of them.
