on Friday, 08 April 2016.

The Department of Business, Innovation and Skills (BIS) has updated its guidance on calculating the National Minimum Wage.

From 1 April 2016, the new National Living Wage rate of £7.20 per hour came into effect, and now applies to workers aged 25 and over.

As a result, BIS has updated its guidance on helping employers comply with the National Minimum Wage legislation.

The guidance covers the following information:

  • how to calculate the National Minimum and Living Wage
  • what counts as pay for the purposes of National Minimum Wage
  • what hours need to be counted for the purposes of calculating National Minimum Wage
  • how the legislation is enforced

Further increases to the National Minimum Wage for other groups will come in to effect on 1 October 2016.
