Shared Parental Leave to be Extended to Working Grandparents
On 5 October 2015, plans were announced for shared parental leave and pay to be extended to working grandparents.
These new plans follow reports that nearly two million grandparents have left work or reduced their hours to support families who cannot afford childcare. The government hopes the plans will encourage more grandparents to remain in employment, thereby extending working lives.
A consultation on the details of this new legislation will be launched early next year with the aim of implementing the relevant legislation by 2018. We will report further on the details of the proposals once the consultation is published.
