New Competition for the Non-Domestic Water Market

on Tuesday, 11 April 2017.

The non-domestic water market officially opened up on 1 April to allow businesses, charities and public sector bodies to choose their water provider.

Resulting from the Water Act 2014, this transformation is the biggest to the market since privatisation and mirrors opportunities currently found in the energy market.

Advocates for the change forecast improved service and better value for money, with £200 million worth of benefits over the next 30 years to the economy and water customers. It is now the world's biggest competitive water market with 1.2 million customers.

Ofwat will regulate the market and providers will be represented by Market Operator Services Limited.

Water companies will be making big investments to the service to maintain and attract customers. Now is a great opportunity to shop around and find the best deal and customer service for your non-domestic water supply.

Our Energy Lawyers are experienced in the utilities sector and look forward to assisting both suppliers and customers with the opportunities that will arise from these developments.
