Adam joined our dedicated healthcare team following the merger of VWV and Lockharts Solicitors, where Adam trained and qualified. Adam specialises in offering commercial and corporate advice to clients operating within the healthcare sector.
What Does Your Role Involve on a Day to Day Basis?
I work for the firm's healthcare clients and my work involves dealing with business and practice sales and acquisitions, mergers, GP federating and offering contractual advice. I mainly work with GPs and dentists, however, I have also worked with pharmacists, optometrists, vets, care homes and also advised new entrants into the healthcare sector as well as international clients. My day to day work can vary and the work we do is constantly changing to reflect the evolving health sector landscape.
What Do You Do as Part of the Healthcare Team at VWV?
A large proportion of my time is spent working in collaboration with the property team and other members of the corporate team in dealing with the sale and purchase of dental practices. I have advised dentists on incorporating their practices and NHS contracts, and have also advised dentists around issues arising from "failed incorporations" and sub-contracting arrangements.
I routinely advise primary care providers on the terms of NHS contracts and matters, such as 24 hour retirement. Increasingly I am asked to advise clients on the functions and powers of the CQC. I work in conjunction with other member of the team to track and follow changes to legislation and NHS/CQC policy to ensure that the advice we can offer to our clients is up to date.
In terms of work involving GPs, I have dealt with a number of practice mergers and am assisting the team provide advice around new models of care and collaborative working.
I have spoken at number of seminars and events for healthcare clients, and most recently I presented at the General Practice CQC Inspections Conference 2017 in London. I also regularly attend trade and industry events where I have the opportunity to meet clients face to face.
How Can You Help Healthcare Practices?
The healthcare team at VWV have many years of experience in the sector and in addition to this, we have invested a lot of time into understanding the sector specific and commercial challenges our clients face so that we can better assist them.
I can assist dentist who are looking at buying or selling a practice, but also GPs who are perhaps looking to merge their practice with another. I enjoy photography in my spare time and find it relaxing. I also like to scuba dive and am hoping to one day combine these two hobbies.
