The proposed cuts which are due to take effect from December have been the subject of long-running campaign by the NPA to prevent the cuts from coming into effect and this is just another step in that direction.
Ian Strachan, chair of the NPA, issued a statement on behalf of the NPA confirming that the NPA is taking legal action against the Government because it had 'no option but to take legal avenues”. The legal challenge is based on the claim that the Government has failed to consider what impact the proposed cuts will have on vulnerable people; particularly, the elderly, those with disabilities and ethnic minorities. The NPA argue that 'had the Department of Health properly considered the impact of its cuts, it would have realised that the cuts will have a disproportionate effect on people with legally protected characteristics and those who live in the most deprived areas of England, where there is already a lack of NHS healthcare provision.'
