Pharma and Healthcare Bodies Join Forces to Put Forward Co-Operative Voice on Brexit Issues

on Wednesday, 19 July 2017.

Organisations from across the pharma and healthcare spectrum have joined forces to create the Brexit Health Alliance (BHA).

The purpose of the BHA is to safeguard the issues of health in light of Britain leaving the European Union.

The group wants to work with the UK Government to argue that it is in both the UK's and Europe's best interests to continue to co-operate on research and in public health issues post-Brexit. The BHA is also seeking commitment from the UK Government towards medical research and providing alternative funding. In addition, it wants to see UK citizens’ rights to receiving healthcare in EU countries will continue.

The members of the BHA are:

  • Association of the British Pharmaceutical Industry (ABPI)
  • Association of British Healthcare Industries (ABHI)
  • The Richmond Group of Charities
  • BioIndustry Association (BIA)
  • NHS Confederation - Co-chair of alliance
  • Welsh NHS Confederation
  • Northern Ireland Confederation (NICON)
  • Association of UK University Hospitals (AUKUH)
  • Academy of Medical Royal Colleges (AOMRC)
  • NHS Providers
  • National Voices
  • Faculty of Public Health (FPH)
  • Association of Medical Research Charities - (AMRC)
  • Scottish NHS Chief Executive Group

Comment

In times of uncertainty, it is good to see a strong voice fighting together to keep the interests of patients as well as players in the pharma, medical devices and healthcare sectors at the forefront of people's thoughts as negotiations on Brexit really get underway.
