Since issuing the fine, Keurboom Communications Ltd has gone into voluntary liquidation; however, the ICO has stated that despite the voluntary liquidation, it remains committed to recovering the fine. In addition to this, the ICO is looking forward to a new right to fine company directors behind nuisance call firms once the Privacy and Electronic Communications Regulations amendments come into law. At the moment, directors often avoid fines by putting their companies into liquidation.
Steve Eckerlsey, Head of Enforcement at the ICO, has reaffirmed the ICO's commitment to tackling companies that "blight people's lives with nuisance calls, texts and emails". As the ICO hits a total of £1.923 million in fines issued for nuisance marketing, the commitment to protect individuals seems stronger than ever.
