What Will the Session Include?
Contract Law Latest
Nick Martindale, a litigation partner and occasional Judge, takes a look at some of 2019's key contract law decisions from the Court of Appeal and High Court. He'll be running through FSHC Group Holdings Ltd v Glas Trust Corporation Ltd EWCA Civ 1361 and its clarification of the test for rectifying contractual terms for common mistake, coming to terms with the decision in Merthyr (South Wales) Ltd v Merthyr Tydfil County Borough Council EWCA Civ 526 with its refresher on contractual interpretation and trying to get his head round relational contracts in Bates & Ors v Post Office Ltd (No 3) EWHC 606 (QB).
Workplace Banter - When Does It Cross the Line?
When it's positive, workplace banter helps develop relationships, reduce stress, diffuse tension and support a collaborative culture. When it's negative, it's just bullying by another name. Context is everything and Narrow Quay HR will help you unblur the line between one person's light hearted joke and another's offensive harassment.
Boilerplate Blather
In what will hopefully be an ongoing series, Ben Holt, a litigation partner and president of Bristol Law Society, and Nick Martindale will highlight a boilerplate clause and discuss when, as litigators, they would or wouldn't want to see it in a contract.
