Ilott v Mitson - An Audience With Penelope Reed QC
VWV and Bristol STEP are pleased to welcome Penelope Reed QC and Hugh Cumber of Five Stone Buildings to provide an informative and unique insight into Ilott v The Blue Cross & others [2017] UKSC 17, the first case involving a claim under the Inheritance (Provision for Family and Dependants) Act 1975 to reach the Supreme Court, with judgment being handed down on Wednesday 15 March.
Penelope Reed QC and Hugh Cumber acted for the charities which were the beneficiaries of the Estate and who appealed against the Court of Appeal's decision in favour of the Claimant, Heather Ilott. The Supreme Court unanimously allowed the charities' appeal on the question of reasonable provision for an estranged adult child.
Penelope Reed QC and Hugh Cumber will be discussing the facts of the case and what the Supreme Court's decision means for adult child claims under the 1975 Act, and there will be opportunity for networking and discussion.
This training session will provide invaluable guidance to probate litigators advising disinherited offspring, and non-contentious private client practitioners advising on succession planning.
