We will cover:

1. What should you be doing as a law firm? (30 mins)

We will explain the key GDPR compliance requirements for solicitors' firms, including:

  • what transparency information to provide to your clients and prospects
  • when you might owe a duty of care to alert your clients to the GDPR
  • what is required in relation to agreements with your service suppliers
  • use of cloud/SaaS
  • how to prepare for responding to requests to exercise the new data subject rights
  • the need for a crisis management plan

We will also provide a checklist for you to take away.

2. Does GDPR mean the end for marketing? (30 mins)

  • So GDPR means I cannot email anyone anything, right? Wrong. There is still a lot you can do with email marketing and your website. A lot. Conscious Solutions will show you what you can do.

3. What should you be doing as an employer? (15 mins)

We will look at considerations for you as an employer.

  • considerations at the recruitment stage
  • if you can rely on consent for processing employees' data
  • whether your employment contracts need to be amended

4. What should you be advising your clients? (30 Mins)

We will cover the key messages for you to convey to your clients, such as:

  • who is covered by the GDPR - including non-UK clients
  • the effect of non-compliance on the implementation date
  • fines (and how the ICO plans to approach setting them)
  • reputation damage and civil damages claims
  • how to avoid committing criminal offences with some recent case examples
  • GDPR audits and compliance programmes

We will provide a checklist and specimen wording for alerting clients to the possibility that they need to consider GDPR compliance.

5. The VWV approach referral process and amended Terms and Conditions. (15 Mins)

We will give you a brief run through of changes to our referral process and terms and conditions, amended to reflect the implementation of GDPR.

We believe attendance at the event will help to demonstrate competence in A2 - maintain the level of competence and legal knowledge needed to practice effectively and D3 - Apply good business practice.
