About the course

The course aims to give civil engineers a better understanding of contract conditions, the legal framework within which they operate, and the management procedures necessary for the successful completion of projects.

Candidates will be given the opportunity to sit examinations after the course:

  • Module 1 Law Exam (2 June 2020, 2.00pm – 5.20pm)
  • Module 2 Contract Management Exam (8 June 2020, 2.00pm – 5.20pm).

Candidates who pass both Module 1 and 2 will receive the ICE Certificate in Law and Contract Management (CLCM). ICE members who achieve the CLCM often use it as a pathway to ICE's dispute resolution registers (including adjudicators, arbitrators and mediators). Private study is necessary to prepare for the examinations in addition to undertaking the course. However, the examinations are optional and candidates may choose to attend the course without attempting the examinations.

Attending the course  will assist ICE members with their Chartered and Member Professional Reviews, particularly in developing their "Commercial Ability". Delegates can request an attendance certificate, if required.

For more information about the course and what's required, please download a copy of the ICE Law and Contract Management Exam curriculum 2019/20.

This course will be subject to a minimum number of bookings. We will confirm at the beginning of February 2020 if that number has been reached. Please do not book any travel or accomodation until this confirmation has been sent.

For candidates who wish to sit the examinations in Bristol, the fee is £125 per Module for ICE members and £150 per Module for non-members (as specified in the curriculum). Candidates must attend the Bristol course in order to be able to sit the examination(s) in Bristol and should only book the examination(s) after having completed the course.

 Testimonials

"A course on contract/tort law given by Kai was enough to expand my knowledge on that area. The course will give those working in the professional industry the necessary knowledge to take on new responsibilities. Following the course, I was able to progress my professional career by passing my Chartership Review and save hundreds of pounds by solving a dispute with a trader."
