The Commercial Property team will be addressing current topics within the industry.
Digital transactions
The prospect of digital conveyancing is becoming more realistic all the time. Will Cotterhill, a solicitor in the Real Estate Team, will discuss the implications for clients and their advisers, including the opportunities arising from blockchain and smart contracts and the risk of increased exposure to fraud.
Tax considerations in property transactions
Tax issues which clients and their advisers need to take into account when entering into property transactions change all the time. Jonathan Musty, a solicitor and taxation technician in our Corporate Team, will review some recent changes in the law including new capital allowances on structures and buildings, the VAT reverse charge on construction bills and some aspects of Stamp Duty Land Tax of which you should be aware.
Charities and Leases
Landlords have been accustomed to having Charities as tenants for many years. However, Charities are increasingly attracted to property investments as a reliable generator of income when returns on other investments are disappointing. Laura Chesham, a senior associate, and Elizabeth Knight, an associate, in our Charity Team will consider matters which Charities should take into account whether they are entering into leases as the tenant or the landlord.
