Notary Services for Businesses
When your business operates internationally or enters into agreements with overseas parties, documents often need to be notarised before they will be recognised by that country.
Navigating these requirements can be complicated and time sensitive. VWV's notary public team are here to make the process straightforward. Our experienced notary public provides specialist notarial services for businesses, helping you navigate international legal requirements.
What is a notary public?
A notary is a legally trained public official who certifies and authenticates documents for use both in the UK and overseas. The notary's seal and office are recognised globally as symbols of public authority, meaning that their involvement is often essential for documents to be accepted and in many cases legally valid, in foreign jurisdictions.
Notarial services provided by a notary public are regulated through the Faculty Office of the Archbishop of Canterbury.
How can our notary public help you?
VWV's notary public has extensive experience providing notary services for businesses of all kinds. We are able to assist with:
A Certificate of Good Standing is used to prove that a company is incorporated and authorised to undertake business. The certificate is issued by UK Companies House and can also be used to confirm information on directors, shareholders, registered office address, insolvency proceedings and previous names. We can notarise a copy of these documents for an overseas lawyer, notary or company registry which may require them.
When doing business internationally, often the requests for formal documentation from the destination country will be confusing or ask for documents which don't exist in the UK. We will liaise with overseas lawyers and business representatives on your behalf, in their language wherever possible, to ensure all the documentation you supply about your company is fully notarised and meets their legal requirements.
We can assist and advise your business on your workplace immigration needs.

Our work highlights
Franchise Agreement for use in China
Making a notarised and Apostilled copy of the Franchise Agreement so that it could be recognised and used by franchisees throughout China, and also treated as being genuine by the Chinese tax authorities.
Memorandum and Articles of Association / Certificate of Good Standing for Greece
A UK limited company operating in Greece needed to obtain a notarised and legalised copy of these documents in order to apply for trade licences in that country. These were all obtained directly from Companies House, having first verified that the individual making the request was authorised to do so, before being forwarded to Greece by courier making the process simple and efficient for the client.
Company/Commercial for UAE
A UK based PLC needed various documents (Board Resolutions, Powers of Attorney, Certificate of Good Standing and filed accounts) to be urgently notarised and legalised up to the UAE embassy in order to incorporate a subsidiary in that country. The Power of Attorney had to be signed in person by a director but other documents could be notarised remotely or downloaded from Companies House.
FAQs
A notary public can certify a wide range of documents for business use, including powers of attorney, company resolutions, certificates of incorporation, commercial contracts, and identity documents. They can also assist with sworn affidavits, statutory declarations, bills of exchange, and shipping protests. The documents required will depend on the jurisdiction in which they are to be used and the nature of the transaction involved.
The cost of notary public services will vary depending on the complexity of the matter, the number of documents involved, and whether an apostille / consular legalisation is also required. Please contact us to discuss your requirements and we will provide a clear indication of costs. We always aim to give a fixed fee so that you know exactly how much it will cost, inclusive of Apostille and courier charges where relevant.
The notarisation of documents can often be completed quickly, though timescales will vary depending on the complexity of the matter and the speed at which the overseas lawyers work. Additional time should be factored in, as these processes involve third parties.
