Recognising the financial difficulties faced by higher education providers and the essential contribution they make to the economy and society as a whole, the Government has announced the Higher Education Restructuring Regime.
The coronavirus crisis has challenged UK universities to respond at great speed to both the effects of summer term closure, and the possible longer term consequences of travel restrictions on overseas student numbers, when planning for at least the next academic year. These new challenges have arrived from leftfield to sit alongside existing issues of adapting to new regulatory and funding regimes, pension deficits and Brexit.
There is increasing public awareness of the challenges facing universities as a consequence of coronavirus (COVID-19), not least the adverse financial implications for many within the UK's diverse higher education sector.
