Government Industrial Strategy targets UK in top three life sciences economies in 10 years

It was developed in collaboration with businesses and aims to make the UK the best place in the world to invest, generate growth, and create jobs across all regions. Eight growth sectors (the IS-8) are the focus, including life sciences, digital/AI, and advanced manufacturing. Others are clean energy, defence, finance, professional and business services, and creative industries.

Clarity on overseas pensions lacking from Legislation Day
25 Jul 2025The policy objective behind the draft legislation and supporting papers in relation to pensions serves to counter two manifest concerns. It aims to remove distortions, amassed over years of changes to pension tax legislation, which have led to pension schemes being increasingly used, and (overtly) marketed, as a tax planning vehicle to transfer wealth rather than for funding retirement. It also aims to remove inconsistencies in the inheritance tax treatment of different types of pensions.

Renter's Rights Bill - what next?
25 Jul 2025The Renter's Rights Bill had its third reading in the House of Lords on 21 July 2025 and is now back with the House of Commons for consideration of the Lords' amendments. It is expected that the Commons will review those amendments on 8 September 2025. The Government is keen to see this bill receive Royal Assent as soon as possible.
