VWV welcome two new Partners strengthening the Charity and Education sectors
VWV is delighted to welcome two new Partners, Clare Smith and Neasa Coen, who join the firm’s Higher Education and Charity Law and Governance teams respectively.
Both Clare and Neasa bring with them extensive experience and deep sector insight, further strengthening VWV’s expertise and ability to help clients navigating complex challenges across the education and charity sectors. Clare will be based in Bristol, and Neasa in London.
Clare joins the firm with nearly two decades of experience in higher education, having worked in the sector since 2006. She offers a wealth of expertise in legal, governance and regulatory matters affecting universities and other higher education providers. Most recently Clare has been General Counsel (interim) at longstanding client, the University of Bristol - she will have a focus on providing senior in-house legal support on an interim basis.
Clare commented: "I'm delighted to be joining the VWV Education team and excited to have the opportunity to work in collaboration
with colleagues and clients to deliver impactful solutions."
Jane Byford, Head of Higher Education, said: "Clare is a fantastic addition to our Higher Education Team and the wider firm. Her experience will be invaluable and we look forward to working with her as a colleague rather than a client. She will specifically be helping us develop our secondment offering to clients in the HE sector."
Neasa is recognised for her thoughtful and pragmatic approach, advising clients across the charitable and not-for-profit sectors. Her practice covers risk management, governance, regulation, projects and tax, with a particular focus on helping clients address complex regulatory and operational issues.
Neasa commented: "I am delighted to be joining VWV. The firm's excellent reputation for charity and education law advice and the strength and depth of its wider offering are of great value to charities and philanthropists. I really look forward to working with the team."
Laura Chesham, Head of the Charity Law and Governance team, added: "We are so pleased to be welcoming Neasa to VWV and the Charity Law and Governance team. Neasa is well-known within the sector as a trusted advisor to charities. She will bring a wealth of experience which will be enormously beneficial to our clients. We really look forward to working with her."
These appointments reflect VWV’s ongoing investment in specialist expertise and its commitment to providing strategic, sector-led advice to clients across the charity and education sectors.
