Gena is a Solicitor in our Commercial Litigation team.
She advises across a wide range of matters including commercial, corporate and contractual disputes. She has particular expertise in financial services litigation, debt recovery and dealing with high-value civil fraud-based claims.
Gena has experience advising financial services providers (including Islamic banks) on a range of fraud related matters, including in relation to the suitability of fraud prevention measures and the assessment of authorised push payment fraud claims. She has worked with clients to carry out audits and develop practical, user-friendly policies, and regularly advises on complex technical issues.
Gena has previously been seconded to the in-house legal team of a leading high street bank, where she supported on a range of insurance, pensions and investments disputes, often involving allegations of breach of duty, contract and/or mandate. She also has experience in bringing and defending Financial Ombudsman complaints.
Notable cases that Gena has been involved in recently include:
- acting for a large fintech in its defence of a £1.5+ million claim in the London Circuit Commercial Court. The claim related to alleged losses suffered by the claimant after funds were not made immediately available to it due to the defendant's suspicions of money laundering
- acting for several claimants in relation to a fraud-based litigation in the High Court valued at £10+ million. The claim related to wrongdoing carried out during the course of a joint venture for the purchase and development of a property in West London
- acting for a hotel group against a company contractor which defrauded the hotel group out of £1+ million (including in the context of an appeal) and securing a judgment personally against the company director.
Gena offers pragmatic, commercial advice. She recognises the value that ADR can have in resolving disputes early and can advise clients through different ADR processes.
