Our team will advise on freedom of information law including the Freedom of Information Act and the Environmental Information Regulations.
Our freedom of information solicitors have particular experience in advising public authorities on complex freedom of information requests, from the initial request through to the internal review and appeals to the Information Tribunal. We are regularly instructed on requests made in relation to wider complaints or grievances, or requests that relate to high profile matters that risk causing the public authority significant reputational damage.
In addition to dealing with the more complex requests, we also have clients who outsource their more routine requests to us, where they do not have the resources to deal with the requests in house.
We are frequently asked to advise clients who are not themselves subject to freedom of information law but who have nevertheless been caught indirectly through their interaction with public authorities. For example, when a charity client has provided information to the Charity Commission (which is a public body and is therefore subject to FOIA), and the Charity Commission subsequently receives a freedom of information request for information about the charity.
Veale Wasbrough Vizards have always given us excellent advice and we have come to realise they are a standout firm.
