The Health and Social Care Act 2012 established new and untried arrangements to devolve commissioning responsibilities and budgets to Clinical Commissioning Groups (CCGs).
This extends the role of GPs as primary care practitioners, involving them in the commissioning process and offering them the opportunity to deliver new services.
