Mental Health & Wellbeing in the Workplace - 4 October 2017 Workshop

on Friday, 18 August 2017.

A recent absence management survey undertaken by the CIPD noted that the average period for a person absent through stress, mental health...

... back and musculosketal issues was 23 days. Such conditions can derive from the working enviroment through excessive demands and pressure put upon these employees.

Common causes of stress in the work place are well documented and due to poor working relationships, workloads, culture and bullying.

The challenge for employers is how to deal with such issues, and common practices include trying to improve work life balance, undertaking stress audits, provision of access to counselling, reduce work loads, provide support and carry out risk assessments.

Employers of course have a legal obligation to provide a safe working enviroment under the Health and Safety at Work Act 1974, and the common law and breaches invariably lead to claims, commonly for unfair dismissal, constructive dismissal, personal injury, failure to make reasonable adjustments if there is a disbility issue.

I will be speaking about these issues at our next HR Forum at our Watford office on the 4 October between 12.30 - 2pm, with Dr Sabrina Robinson, Head of Health and Wellbeing at Herts Mind network, and Stephen Shynn of Good Health Solutions, who will be giving practical tips to employers dealing with wellness in the workplace.

Places are limited. If you would like to attend this event, please email mdelaney@vwv.co.uk.
