Recruitment and Retention of Transgender Staff - New Government Guidance

On 26 November 2015, the Government Equalities Office released guidance for employers on the recruitment and retention of transgender staff.

The guidance includes practical advice and guidance on the recruitment procedure and how employers should manage their workforce and maintain a trusting relationship with the employee concerned during their gender reassignment transition.

The guidance also includes a suggested action plan template that can be discussed and agreed on with transgender employees before, during and after their transition.

An overview of the legislation that could come into play is also included, highlighting the potential claims a transgender employee could bring in an employment tribunal.
