New Refund Scheme for Powers of Attorney - Can You Claim?

on Tuesday, 01 May 2018.

The Office of the Public Guardian (OPG) has launched a scheme to offer refunds to those who made Lasting or Enduring Powers of Attorney applications between 1 April 2013 and 31 March 2017.

During the period from 1 April 2013 to 31 March 2017 the OPG's operating costs came down as more people applied to register a Power of Attorney and the process became more efficient, but the application fee charged was not reduced in line with this.

Fees for registrations of LPAs were reduced from £110 to £82 in April 2017 to reflect this and so anyone who made and LPA after April 2017 is not entitled to a refund. The amount of refund depends on when the LPAs were made and ranges from £34 to £54 for each LPA. Claims must be made before January 2021 and are only applicable where the LPA was made in England or Wales.
