Theresa May's letter to Sigma Conference Expresses Support for Community Pharmacy and Reaffirms Government Support for the Sector

on Wednesday, 01 March 2017.

British Prime Minister Theresa May has set out in her letter to the Sigma Conference in Rio de Janeiro this year, the importance of community pharmacy and reaffirmed the Government's commitment to supporting the sector.

However, despite the pleasantries, the PM also stood firm regarding the planned cuts to the pharmacy budget, stating that they are key to ensuring "a modern and efficient community pharmacy sector – properly integrated into primary care and public health".

The PM also made a special reference to the conference hosts, Sigma Pharmaceuticals, for organising an event which provides an annual opportunity for the UK retail and general pharmaceutical sector to come together and "will not only showcase the contribution that you make to the UK economy and to the lives of many thousands of patients and customers, but also celebrate your achievements".

On behalf of all of us here at VWV, we wish Sigma Pharmaceuticals well-earned congratulations on organising another well-received conference, and also for the positive comments by our PM in this way.

Cuts aside, let's hope the Government gives its support to the pharmacy sector to enable it to achieve so much more in being part of the community that treats patients.
