The Government Announces Increases to Various Statutory Benefits from April 2023

on Friday, 16 December 2022.

In its policy paper 'Benefit and Pension Rates 2023 to 2024', the Government has set out increases to several statutory benefits starting from April 2023.

These will include statutory sick and parental bereavement pay as well as maternity, paternity, shared parental and adoption pay.

The Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) has announced its proposed increases to several statutory benefit payments:

  • The weekly rate of statutory sick pay will increase from £99.35 to £109.40.
  • The weekly rates of statutory maternity pay, maternity allowance, statutory paternity pay, statutory shared parental pay, statutory adoption pay and statutory parental bereavement pay will all increase from £156.66 to £172.48.

The new rates represent an increase of 10.1% on the rates applicable for 2022/2023, and they are due to come into effect on 10 April 2023. The increases to the national minimum wage rates, which were announced in the Autumn Statement (please refer to our previous article for further information on this) which will apply from 1 April 2023.
