On 2 April 2025, Acas published practical guidance on how to support employees whose babies require neonatal care. The guidance covers not only the legal entitlements but also suggests good practice for managing requests, maintaining communication, and supporting employee wellbeing.
At the same time, the Government has published official guidance on how to implement the new statutory entitlements. This includes eligibility criteria, how leave can be taken, and information for employers on administering statutory neonatal care pay.
Employers are encouraged to review both sets of guidance to ensure their policies and procedures are up to date. Having a clear and accessible policy in place will help ensure legal compliance, set expectations for employees and line managers, and support a consistent and compassionate approach at what is often a very difficult time for families.
