Penalties for Unpaid Tribunal Awards

on Friday, 29 January 2016.

The government has confirmed its intention to introduce the new 'unpaid award penalties' from April 2016.

This means that the Government will issue a 'warning notice' if any tribunal awards or payments due under settlements remain unpaid by employers.

If the sums due continue to remain unpaid, the employer will receive a 'penalty notice' of 50% of the outstanding balance payable to the Secretary of State, not the employee. This penalty will be subject to a £100 minimum and £5,000 maximum.
