The National Minimum Wage (Amendment) (No.2) Regulations 2016 will come into Force on 1 October 2016

on Friday, 23 September 2016.

The National Minimum Wage (Amendment) (No.2) Regulations 2016 will come into force on 1 October 2016.

The new national living wage of £7.20 an hour for workers aged 25 and over which came into force on 1 April 2016 will not change on 1 October.

The new minimum wages from 1 October 2016 will be:

  • For a worker who is aged 25 and over - £7.20 per hour
  • For a worker who is aged 21 years or over (but not yet aged 25 years)  - £6.95 per hour
  • For a worker who is aged 18 years or over (but  not yet aged 21 years) - £5.55 per hour
  • For a worker who is aged under 18 years (but above compulsory school age) - £4.00 per hour
  • For a worker to whom the apprenticeship rate applies - £3.40 per hour

All employers should ensure that these changes are implemented with immediate effect from 1 October 2016.
