on Monday, 13 January 2020.

We welcome Thomas Dick, a dual-qualified US/English tax lawyer, as a Partner in our London office.

Thomas Dick PR 750x450

Tom specialises in US tax and commercial law issues, including investing in the United States and cross-border philanthropy, and is qualified in both the United States and England. Tom has 30 years' experience practising with leading firms in New York City, Washington, DC and London, and was educated at the Universities of London and Virginia. He joins VWV from DLA Piper, where he led the US tax desk in London for several years. Throughout his career he has acted on behalf of clients such as The Nuffield Foundation, The Henry Smith Charity and Esmée Fairbairn Foundation.

Tom will strengthen the firm's commercial and tax offering for our charities and education practices, which will become more relevant as the third sector continues to grow in importance and complexity.

Our Education and Charities teams saw great successes in 2019, with both practices achieving top-tier rankings in independent legal directories Legal 500 and Chambers & Partners.

Based across the firm's offices in London, Watford, Bristol and Birmingham, VWV's 40-strong Charities team works for prestigious clients such as the Harpur Trust, the Institute of Cancer Research and the University of Bristol, and was placed in the top three legal advisers to charities for the fifth consecutive year by Charity Finance.

Simon Heald, VWV's Managing Partner, welcomed Tom to the firm:

"Tom carries with him vast experience of international investment and we are thrilled to welcome him to the team. His expertise will strengthen VWV's services even further, and propel the firm's growth forward as we begin the new year."

Tom commented on his appointment:

"I'm excited to work alongside VWV's excellent Charities and Education teams for the benefit of our clients. Great client service has always been an important tenet of mine, so I look forward to working within a firm which holds this ideal in highest regard."
