The environment

Playing our part in the global effort to address climate change is important to us.

We are committed to managing our environmental impact and reducing our greenhouse gas emissions and apply a range of initiatives through our environmental sustainability action plan.

Reduce, re-use and recycle

Individual offices pursue a number of reduce, re-use and recycling initiatives relating to paper, toner cartridges, plastic, furniture, fixtures and fittings. Additionally, VWV delivers training and awareness initiatives to encourage behaviour changes throughout the firm.

In February 2020, VWV’s London office received the Platinum Clean City Award from the City of London, recognising our approach to responsible waste management.

Energy use

VWV pursues a variety of initiatives in this area. These include:

  • the installation of motion sensors and solar panels within the Bristol office
  • encouraging staff to switch off lights and equipment when premises are not in use
  • ensuring that our facilities are ESOS compliant

Water use

Staff are encouraged to use the eco setting on equipment such as dishwashers and to ensure that they are completely full before they are used. Water leaks are prioritised and dealt with swiftly.

Use of transport

Free car parking provision was discontinued a number of years ago and staff are encouraged to use public transport, walk or cycle to the office. The firm’s recently adopted approach to flexible working has also reduced staff need to travel to work every day.

Supply chain

Environmental matters are an important factor in the firm's purchasing decisions. These include:

  • supplier environmental credentials (certifications, policies, climate change commitments)
  • prioritising the use of more environmentally friendly materials and products
  • provision of more environmentally friendly alternatives

In addition, our London office has been working with Eden Caterers to run its meetings and seminars. As a result and as part of the company's commitment to conduct business in the most environmentally friendly way, Eden Caterers have planted multiple trees on our behalf.

Recent and planned developments

  • VWV has recently appointed an external advisor to obtain ISO14001 certification for its offices and plans to introduce regular emissions and energy use reporting to enable the setting of goals and targets going forward.

  • VWV has established a governance system for the management of its environmental impacts. The Finance Director is the Management Board member with responsibility for the firm’s environmental performance.

  • The firm has published a more comprehensive environmental policy and its first statement on its approach to climate change. Both will be updated and revised as the firm’s approach develops.
